Civil Law Act Malaysia Amendment
On 8 june 2018 the act on the amendment to the civil code act and certain other acts of 13 april 2018 which changes basic rules concerning limitation periods for civil law claims was published in the journal of laws.
Civil law act malaysia amendment. The changes come into effect on 9 july 2018. As of september 2015 there have been 57 amendments to the constitution of malaysia since it was first enacted in 1957. The civil law amendment act 2019 will come into operation on 1 september 2019. In april last year the parliament of malaysia passed a bill known as the limitation amendment act 2018 the limitation act 1953 act 254 referred to as the principal act was amended by inserting after section 6.
Laws of malaysia reprint act 164 law reform marriage and divorce act 1976 incorporating all amendments up to 1 january 2006 published by the commissioner of law revision malaysia under the authority of the revision of laws act 1968 in collaboration with percetakan nasional malaysia bhd 2006. A consequential amendment is made to section 11 of the civil law act pursuant to the introduction of section 6a in the limitation act 1953 limitation act which allows a person to take action on negligence involving latent damage in construction cases which was discovered outside the limitation period of six years from the date the cause of action accrued. The constitution can be altered through an amendment act supported by two thirds of the members of parliament. Pursuant to section 6 of the limitation act 1953 an action founded on contract or on tort must be brought within six years from the date on which the cause of action accrues.

The provision to amend the constitution falls under article 159. The civil law amendment bill 2018 is being tabled before the dewan rakyat and the dewan negara during the current meeting of the malaysian parliament from 11 march 2019 to 9 may 2019.
